2010 FIFA World Cup™ - Host Cities - Nelson Mandela Bay / Port Elizabeth

Overview

Nelson Mandela Bay will offer visitors and residents safe and easily accessible public transport during the 2010 FIFA World Cup™. Bus and other existing services will cater for a wide variety of transport requirements, and will ensure that the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, the FIFA Fan Fest™ and the public viewing areas (PVAs) are adequately served.

Event-related public transport will be added to the regular public transport system i.e. airport shuttle services from the Port Elizabeth International Airport to various event facilities, stadium shuttles to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Park & Ride and City Wide services.

Airport and Stadium Shuttle Services

On match days the NMBM will provide shuttle services from the Airport to the Stadium, Fan Fest and Beachfront Hotel facilities.

The Airport to Stadium shuttle service will operate for the time period of six hours before kick-off.
The Airport to Beachfront Hotel service will run via the Kings Beach Transport Hub and will be operational 24hrs a day for the period of the event and will have a pre game peak starting six hours before kick-off.
The Airport to the Fan Fest route will operate daily from 09h00 to 24h00 and will have a pre game peak starting six hours before kick-off.

Stadium shuttle services operating 3 to 6 hours pre-match and return for 3 hours post match will also be provided from:

Summerstrand serving the Beachfront Hotel facilities.
Park & Ride Sites

Park n Ride and City Wide Services

Shuttle services will be provided from the following three Park & Ride sites to the Stadium:

Kings Beach Parking Area – Humewood
Fan Fest at St Georges Park Cricket Stadium
Andrew Rabie High School

In addition to these sites a Park & Walk site is located at the Cilliers School playing fields allowing spectators to park and walk to the stadium.

Stadium Area

The Port Elizabeth Stadium is situated at Prince Alfred’s Park in North End. The stadium is bordered to the south by Fettes Road, to the east by Prince Alfred’s Road and to the north by Milner Street. and is conveniently located close to main transport routes from all parts of the city.

Shuttle services from the airport, Beachfront Hotels and the Park & Ride sites will drop off spectators at dedicated bays along Harrower Rd between Fettes Road and Lancaster Street.

Fan Park and CBD Wide Area

The main Fan Fest will be located at the St Georges Park Cricket Stadium in the suburb called Central and can accommodate approximately 44 500 people.

Shuttle services will be provided to the Fan Fest from Park & Ride sites, Beachfront Hotel facilities and from the Fan Fest to the Stadium.

A shuttle service will operate on the Fan Fest precinct linking the CBD in Govan Mbeki Avenue with the Fan Fest in Rink Street via Parliament Street and Western Rd.
