Overview

The City of Rustenburg will offer visitors and residents safe and easily accessible public transport during the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, ensuring that the Royal Bafokeng Stadium, the FIFA Fan Fest™ and the public viewing areas are adequately served.

Event-related public transport will be added to the regular public transport system i.e. a stadium shuttle to the Royal Bafokeng Stadium and Park and Ride services.

Stadium Match Shuttle Services

Shuttle services to the stadium will be provided from the Rustenburg Rail Station and the various Park & Ride Sites.

The service from Rustenburg Rail Station will operate from the station, past Olympia Park, to the stadium.

Shuttle services will operate from the following Park & Ride sites to the Stadium:

• R104 South Site. This site is located conveniently to the south of the R104 close to the N4 intersection with the R104. The site will be supported by the R104 North which will cater for possible overflow of vehicles from the R104 south site.
• Phokeng North and Eastern sites which are located in closer proximity to the Royal Bafokeng stadium
• Olympia Stadium located on Nelson Mandela Drive and will be served by the shuttle services from the Rail Station.

Park & Walk sites:

The Bafokeng High School is located to the south of the Stadium and within walking distance. The area in front of the school to be used for parking of vehicles, with spectators then walking to the stadium.

CBD Wide Area

There is currently a public transport hub (bus and taxi) at the intersection of Nelson Mandela and Oliver Tambo Streets at the northern end of the CBD. This facility is expected to provide a service between the CBD and the Royal Bafokeng stadium.

Fan Park Area

The FIFA Fan Park will be located at Field College, at 226 Klopper St west of the Rustenburg CBD area. The Fan Park is also located within walking distance from both Olympia Park and the existing taxi rank in the CBD area.
